Hope’s Harbor Provides Crucial Support During Family Crisis
Fort Wayne, Indiana – Hope’s Harbor Family Hospitality Homes is proud to share a heartfelt testimonial from the Heckber family, illustrating the profound impact of our services during one of the most challenging times of their lives.
On March 9th, Kaylee Heckber was involved in a devastating car accident that resulted in severe, life-threatening injuries and placed her in the ICU. Just moments before the accident, Kaylee and her boyfriend, Keaton, were en-route to assist friends in need. The unexpected collision left Kaylee fighting for her life and her family grappling with the emotional and logistical challenges of her critical condition.
Sarah Heckber, Kaylee’s mother, recalls receiving the distressing call about the accident. “I had just spoken to Kaylee moments before and was immediately struck by the gravity of the situation when Keaton called and handed the phone to another individual who told me my daughter didn’t have much time to live,” Sarah said. She rushed to the hospital, feeling helpless as they waited anxiously for updates on Kaylee’s condition.
During this intense period, the Heckber family discovered Hope’s Harbor. Sarah reflects on how our facility made a significant difference during their ordeal. “Hope’s Harbor provided a lifeline for us. With Kaylee in the ICU, being close to the hospital was crucial. We were able to stay just a short distance away, which meant everything to us during those critical moments,” she said.
Hope’s Harbor’s support went beyond just providing proximity to the hospital. Sarah appreciated the nourishing meals provided by our dedicated volunteers. “After long, stressful days, having access to home-cooked meals was a blessing. It allowed us to take care of ourselves amidst the chaos and focus on supporting Kaylee,” she noted.
The Heckber family also benefited from the various amenities and supplies available at Hope’s Harbor. “The pantry stocked with donated food and essentials, as well as the well-stocked laundry rooms, made a real difference. Knowing that we had these resources available was incredibly comforting during such a trying time,” Sarah added.
